The Career and Community Engagement Center’s series of talks by alumni continues next week with two opportunities to hear from and connect with four Whitman graduates working in a variety of fields. 

Advocating Across Borders: Lunch and Learn

A panel of four alumni will talk about the linear and nonlinear career paths they have taken since college and how their fellowships helped them launch into life after Whitman. All four also went to law school. The four alums are (pictured, from left): Nadim Damluji ’10 (Politics), Ari van Schilfgaarde ’07 (Physics and Environmental Studies), Jaqueline Bonilla Fuentes ’16 (Sociology and Politics) and Hanne Jensen ’14 (English and Philosophy).

These events are made possible with support from the Sava and Danica Andjelkovic Endowed Lectureship.

As a means of enriching the Power and Privilege Symposium experience, four Whitman faculty will lead a post-symposium dialogue on Friday, Feb. 20, from 4–5 p.m. in the Third Space Center.

President Bolton Holds Open Office Hours for Students Today

President Sarah Bolton will hold open office hours for students on Friday, Feb. 20, from noon–1 p.m. in Cleveland Commons. Stop by to share your thoughts or just to chat.

 

Stand-Up Comedy Event Tonight

Artist, activist and comedian Mina “MJ” Cheon will perform an hour of stand-up comedy on Friday, Feb. 20, from 6–7 p.m. in Olin Auditorium.  Topics will include Korean shame, Asian stereotypes, global geopolitics, life and death, art and comedy, and art history. Free tickets may be reserved in advance. The event is hosted by Sheehan Gallery in connection with the current exhibition, “To Make Us Free: Witnessing Activism at Whitman and Beyond.” A reception in Sheehan Gallery will follow the comedy event. Hosokawa Journalism Lecture Next Week

Pulitzer Prize-winning photo documentarian Preston Gannaway will deliver this year’s Hosokawa Journalism Lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center Young Ballroom. The lecture is free and open to the public. (Flyer attached.)

Last week, Mahdee Kirkpatrick ’27 (center), President of Whitman’s Black Student Union (BSU) accepted the City of Walla Walla’s first proclamation for Black History Month. The BSU will host Council Member Rodney Outlaw as keynote speaker for an event titled “We Are Still Here” on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. in Reid Campus Center’s Young Ballroom.
