‘The Spitfire Grill’ Musical Opens Tonight
|
The 2024–2025 season at Harper Joy Theatre will conclude with a musical titled “The Spitfire Grill” with performances May 8–11 in the Freimann Studio Theatre. The production is directed by Associate Professor of Theater and Dance Laura Hope. (Flyer attached.)
Based on a Lee David Zlotoff film of the same name, “The Spitfire Grill” tells the story of Percy Talbott, a recently incarcerated young woman searching for community and belonging in a small town in Wisconsin.
In keeping with the play’s themes, the theater is also organizing community engagement activities in connection with our neighbor—the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP).
|
- Through Sunday, the theater is accepting donations of books, which will be donated to the WSP library.
- Artwork by incarcerated individuals is currently on display in the Harper Joy Theatre lobby.
- Following the performance on Saturday, May 10, there will be a post-show discussion hosted by The STAR Project, a local reentry program serving southeast Washington.
