New Smoke- and Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

A no-smoking icon above white text “Welcome to Our Smoke- and Tobacco-Free Campus” on a dark blue background.

A new Smoke- and Tobacco-Free Campus Policy goes into effect this week on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Recently approved by the President’s Cabinet, the policy applies to all Whitman-owned properties and Whitman-sponsored off-campus events. The policy applies to students, staff, faculty, vendors and other visitors.

While smoking and tobacco use are generally prohibited, there are three designated areas on campus where these activities are permitted. In addition, tobacco use remains permissible on city-owned sidewalks.

Whitman College provides various resources to support smoking cessation, including programs through the college’s health plans and the Welty Student Health Center.

If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Williams, Sustainability Manager.

Huang’s main responsibility on the expedition was to monitor, collect and clean bathymetric data (depths and shapes of underwater terrain) in real-time as the ship sailed.
