All In for Whitman College

The All In for Whitman annual giving days (Oct. 22–23) are here!

This is a great time to consider joining the community by making a gift to The Whitman Fund, our current use account that makes many activities on campus possible. We have generous faculty and staff matches that ensure your gift goes even further to support the school.

Join us at a Carniv-All-In for Whitman event on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 4–6:30 p.m. at Reid Campus Center. Enjoy an afternoon of fun and festivities, including popcorn, candy, face-painting, games and more.

All In is a time to celebrate your role in the community by giving back. You can also help us by advocating for Whitman College. Watch for updates at give.whitman.edu/allin.

Cheer us on as we reach our goal of 1,561 donors!

Professor Publishes Article in Journal of Critical Muslim Studies

Associate Professor of Religion and South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Lauren E. Osborne has published a new article, “Qur’anic Orality and Textual Epistemologies of the Humanities,” in the open-access peer-reviewed journal ReOrient: The Journal of Critical Muslim Studies. In this article, Osborne argues that the Qur’an presents an epistemology that can recenter the categories underlying modern understandings of religion and knowledge. The argument reveals the implied assumptions of the categories of orality and textuality that undergird the modern category of religion, to which the Qur’an presents an epistemology wherein orality and textuality are intertwined and overlapping categories and ways of knowing and experiencing, not separable categories as is often assumed.
