Helping Students Discover Whitman

Our Office of Admission hosts several large-scale visit programs for students who have not yet applied to Whitman. These events are held during the summer and fall and are designed to both highlight the Whitman experience and provide helpful tips on the application process.

During July and August, more than 225 prospective students and their families visited campus during two Discover Whitman Days. The visitors traveled from states across the country, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

“This summer’s Discover Whitman Days were such a great opportunity to welcome prospective students and their families to campus at an early phase in their college search,” says Adam Miller, Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid. “I’m so grateful for the incredible effort our admission team and for the support of faculty, staff and students who helped showcase Whitman’s amazing campus and community!”

Sheehan Gallery Exhibit Receives AASLH Award of Excellence

Last fall’s Sheehan Gallery exhibit, “Picturing Family: Métis Life in the Walla Walla Valley,” has received an Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). The exhibit was created by Professor of French and Francophone Studies Sarah Hurlburt, in collaboration with Sheehan Gallery and Maxey Museum. “Picturing Family” combined family photos of the Métis (mixed Indigenous and French Canadian) population of the Umatilla Indian Reservation at the turn of the 20th century with contemporary art made and collected by descendants at the turn of the 21st century.
