Student Voices: Exploring the World

A group of five people pose for a photo in colorful outfits.

What if studying abroad were possible for you? Thanks to the Off-Campus Studies Office, it is! Recent grad Isabella Hill ’25 (pictured, middle) shares how Whitman’s financial aid, academic support and global partnerships made her dream of traveling come true.

“Growing up in a working-class family, I never had the opportunity to travel much, let alone go overseas! During my college search, I knew I would love to study abroad, and I intentionally researched schools that offered the opportunity to spend a semester in another country. In this, I found out that Whitman not only encourages students to study abroad but also provides the support needed, making it incredibly easy to do so! That, paired with my financial aid offer, was a big reason why I chose Whitman.

“During my first year on campus, I attended a First Steps meeting held by the Off-Campus Studies office. I learned about the range of study abroad options, from experiential programs to direct enrollment in overseas universities and American study centers. One of the most important things I learned in that session was that all Whitman-awarded financial aid can be applied to off-campus programs! … After that initial meeting, I began considering my options.”

Whitties are sharing it all in our multimedia blog, Student Voices. Experience Whitman and Walla Walla through our students’ eyes! Read their personal stories, passions and perspectives—from navigating campus life to mentoring and career prep, learning a new language, sharing fun club activities, living in the Interest House Community and more.

All students are welcome to share their Whitman experiences. Staff and faculty are also invited to nominate students. We’d love to partner with various offices across campus to support more student stories. Nominations can be submitted using the Whittie Wisdom Nomination Form.
