27th Annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference

Today is the 27th annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference, a celebration of the scholarship, critical thinking, self-driven exploration and creativity of Whitman students.
Built into the academic calendar, all students are released from their regularly scheduled class obligations in order to attend the conference. The conference is a showcase of student-centered research shared via a program of posters, presentations, performances and panel discussions.

Whitman Undergraduate Conference: Block Schedule
|
- 9–10:15 a.m.—Presentations
- 10:15–10:45 a.m.—Morning Break
- Snacks available in Maxey Hall, Olin Hall and the Hall of Science.
- String Ensemble performing in the Hall of Science atrium.
- 10:45 a.m. to noon—Presentations
- Noon–1:15 p.m.—Lunch Break
- Grab lunch on your own.
- Jazz Ensemble I performing at Cleveland Commons (weather permitting) or Reid Campus Center (rain location).
- 1:15–2:15 p.m.—Poster Session at Penrose Library
- 2:15–2:45 p.m.—Afternoon Break
- Snacks available in Maxey Hall, Olin Hall and the Hall of Science.
- Chorale Ensemble performing in the Hall of Science atrium.
- 2:45–4 p.m.—Presentations

Conversation With Author Javier Zamora on Thursday
|
The Center for Global Studies and the Hispanic Studies Department will host a conversation with renowned memoirist and poet Javier Zamora on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in Maxey Auditorium. Associate Professor and Chair of Hispanic Studies Aarón Aguilar-Ramirez will moderate a discussion with Zamora, focused on Zamora’s 2022 memoir, “Solito,” in which he recounts the harrowing journey he made as an unaccompanied 9-year-old from El Salvador to the United States. The conversation will be followed by a book signing. The Whitman College Bookstore will have copies of the memoir available for purchase. (Flyer attached.)

Volunteers Needed for Annual Powwow
|
The second Pášx̣apa Powwow will take place on Saturday, May 3, at the Sherwood Athletic Center. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of roles, from providing directions to visitors, to monitoring building traffic and cleaning up after the event. Volunteer registration is open now through Thursday, April 24.
