Prospective Students Visit Campus in April

April is an important month in the admission cycle, with many prospective and admitted students and their families visiting every week, Monday through Saturday. We also have Spring Into Whitman Days coming up on Saturday, April 11, and Saturday, April 25.
Our goal is to make all admitted students feel welcome and comfortable at Whitman, and we could use your help.
|
- Volunteer on Spring Into Whitman Days to welcome and direct campus guests.
- Smile when you see visitors. A smile goes a long way and can make a real difference in first impressions.
- If possible, wear your Whitman gear, especially on the days that admitted students programs are taking place.
- Be conscientious about parking. Try not to park in the spaces labeled for visitors or anywhere that blocks campus sidewalks or pathways.

Thank you to everyone who engages with these admitted students, from the initial point of contact through their upcoming visits and decisions, answering questions, extending invitations to classes and events, and sharing what you love about Whitman. It all makes a difference in their decision, and we appreciate your help!

Politics Student’s Research Published
|
Politics major Ariel He ’27 carried out research as a United Nations (UN) Volunteer with the Morobe Development Foundation in Papua New Guinea, where she examined feasible approaches to mangrove monitoring in the Kamiali Wildlife Management Area. The research, recently published by the International Journal of Social Science and Applied Technology, evaluates tools such as satellite mapping, Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis, drone surveys and community-based monitoring in resource-constrained environments, contributing to ongoing efforts under the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Employee Tuition Benefit Information
|
As the college prepares to update the employee tuition benefit, including the addition of tuition exchange programs, we know people have questions about the changes. A Tuition Benefit FAQ has been added to the Financial Planning webpage and will continue to have information added to it as further details are finalized.

Thinking about participating in the Career and Community Engagement Center’s annual Resume Challenge? (Flyer attached.) Learn more about building and polishing your resume with the Student Career Advisors during a Resume Workshop on Wednesday, April 8, from 4:30–5:30 p.m. in Reid 207. Free mini Lego succulents (while supplies last) for attendees.

Texas Poet Laureate Talk Tomorrow
|
The Visiting Writers Reading Series continues with a talk by Kevin Prufer on Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in Kimball Theatre in Hunter Conservatory. Prufer is the 2026 Texas Poet Laureate and the author of numerous books of poetry and fiction. (Flyer attached.)

Mental Health Resource Fair on Friday
|
The Whitman Events Board and the Psychology and Mental Health Society will co-host a Mental Health Resource Fair on Friday, April 10, from 4–6 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center’s Young Ballroom. The event is an opportunity to connect with Walla Walla community organizations, and networks in mental health care and services. Attendees will also have the chance to win raffle prizes. Whitman Swimming Teams Offer Lessons
|
The Whitman swimming teams will host swim lessons for all age groups in two sessions, April 13–16 and April 20–23, at Harvey Pool. The cost is $80 per swimmer per week. Registration is due by the Friday before each week of lessons begins. (Flyer attached.)

Rehearsals are underway for the One Act Play Festival at Harper Joy Theatre with performances April 30–May 3. Tickets—free for Whitman students—are available online.

Submissions of 125 words or less are due by noon on the business day prior to publication. Submissions may be edited and/or held for a later date according to space and editorial needs.
