On Friday, the Whitman women’s basketball team secured their fourth Northwest Conference (NWC) Tournament title in the last five years with a 67–51 win against George Fox. It marked the first time since 2017 that Whitman cut down the NWC tournament net on the road—a season that saw the Blues make their way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

With the NWC Tournament win, the Blues automatically qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament. In their opening match, they will compete against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, March 6, at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live in Reid Campus Center.

Two Blues players, Holly Morgan ’27 and Emma Lena Baker ’28, also recently earned second team honors on the Northwest All-Conference Women’s Basketball Team.

Campus Safety Preparedness

Information Sessions

The safety of our campus community members is a priority, and we’re coordinating to ensure emergency preparedness among faculty, staff and students. Beginning next week, we’ll offer a series of information sessions across campus designed to provide practical guidance and clear information to help you respond confidently and appropriately in a variety of situations.

Topics will include:

  • Understanding how to respond to a law enforcement inquiry
  • First steps for addressing emergency situations on campus
  • How to report incidents and access campus safety resources
  • Meeting places in case of a building evacuation

These sessions will be led by Greg Powell, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Security, and Kat McWhorter, Environmental Health and Safety Manager.

To ensure full coverage, McWhorter will connect directly with folks across campus with specific dates and times, and we’ll make sure to offer plenty of opportunities to connect in the coming weeks.
