Reflections From a Computer Science Graduate

Luke Samuels exiting the stage at commencement, holding a diploma case.

When Luke Samuels ’24 visited the Whitman College campus for the first time, he immediately felt a sense of belonging.

Samuels was thinking about transferring from a large state school and was staying with a close childhood friend and current Whitman student for the weekend.

“I came to visit after I was accepted, and I liked it,” he says. “The students I met were all really friendly, and I kept running into them over the weekend.”

Samuels didn’t expect to attend a smaller school. When he was initially exploring his college options, he was specifically looking for a big school.

Read more about what led Samuels to Whitman College and how he knew he’d made the right decision.

The @ourwhitman social media account is a fun way to see the Whitman College experience through student perspectives. Last week, Biology-Environmental Studies major Taylor Hebert ’25 shared about her summer internship with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation freshwater mussel project. In addition to lab and field work, Hebert co-led a three day tribal youth camp where they searched for mussels in local rivers.
