Fall for Whitman Day

Feature by: Office of Admission

Three students stop to chat while walking across Whitman campus.

Whitman College will be hosting prospective students and their guests on Saturday, Oct. 19 for Fall for Whitman Day. This is a great time for prospective students and their guests to visit campus in person to learn more about our community. Whatever your role at Whitman, you have a vital role to play in welcoming potential students.

Here are a few ways to help:

  • Smile! Be ready to turn a friendly face to people you pass on campus.
  • Wear your Whitman College gear on these event days.
  • Please do not park in the spaces labeled for events or anywhere that blocks campus sidewalks or pathways.
  • Sign up to greet guests, help them get to their next destination or join them for lunch!

Thank you to everyone who engages with these students from the initial point of contact through their upcoming visits and decisions, answering questions, and sharing what you love about Whitman.

Photo Finish

A group of students, illuminated in red light, raise their hands and point to the sky where the northern lights are visible in bright green patterns in the sky.

Eleven students in the SSRA 342 Wilderness Expedition Sea Kayaking Class traveled to the San Juan Islands during the recent break where they worked on paddling techniques, navigation, camping, backcountry cooking, natural history interpretation, group dynamics and more. They were also treated to spectacular views of the northern lights along with seals, otters, dolphins, porpoises, crabs, sea jellies, great blue herons, bats, bald eagles and numerous other seabirds and marine life in the intertidal zone. Additional photos are available on Instagram. To learn more about Spring Semester outdoor skills, wilderness medicine and/or leadership training courses, contact the Outdoor Program.
