Alum Talks With the CCEC

The Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) will host a series of talks  by alumni this month—providing students with multiple opportunities to connect with Whitman graduates working in a variety of fields.

Noteworthy

Religion Professor Published in Journal of the American Academy of Religion

Assistant Professor of Religion Ralph H. Craig III has published “Preacher and Audience Studies: Reading the Dharmabhāṇakaparivarta and Sukhavihāraparivarta of the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra as Homiletic Manuals” as an advance article in the Journal of the American Academy of Religion. The full issue will be published in March.

Sweets With SAC Today

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) invites all staff members to stop by the Cleveland Commons Lizzie Murr Dining Room on Thursday, Feb. 12, between noon and 2 p.m. for a sweet treat. Bring your lunch and stay, or just stop by for cookies and Rice Krispies Treats.

 

Faculty Teach-In Event Tonight

A multidisciplinary group of faculty members will participate in two teach-in events titled “Making Sense of Crises: The Power of Creative Thinking.” The events will take place on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 4–5:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 4–5:30 p.m. in Olin Auditorium. (Flyer attached.)

 

Love Data Week Event Tomorrow

In celebration of Love Data Week, Penrose Library will host an event titled “Where’s the Data? Finding Government Data in Interesting Times” on Friday, Feb. 13, from 4–5 p.m. in Room 313 (“the Fishbowl”). Scholarly Communications Librarian Amy Blau will provide an overview of what has been happening with federal government data in the last year and share some suggestions for how data users—and all citizens—can track this information.

 

Presidential Contract Extension

The Whitman College Board of Trustees has offered a five-year contract extension to President Sarah Bolton, and she has accepted. Thank you to the faculty and staff that participated in the review process and provided feedback to the board as part of this process.   

The extension reflects the board’s strong support for President Bolton’s leadership and for the collaborative work of faculty, staff and students in advancing the college’s goals.

President Bolton says she is “deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue collaborating with Whitman’s remarkable faculty and staff as we advance Whitman's mission, providing transformative learning experiences to students from across the country and around the world for years to come.”
