This weekend, following regular season wins by both of Whitman’s tennis teams, Whitman will host both the Northwest Conference (NWC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournaments.

All matches are scheduled to take place on the outdoor tennis courts with Bratton Tennis Center serving as a backup location depending on the weather.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology (Physiology) Rachel C. Wilson has received a Research Start-Up Grant through the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. The funding period for this grant begins next fall, when Wilson will start a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the Health and Human Performance Department at the College of Idaho. The proposed research involves foundational studies documenting the hormone signaling pathways of estrogen and progesterone in menstruating bat species and examining how age may alter those pathways. This work has broader implications for evolutionary biology and biomedical science, as current knowledge of uterine bleeding emanates primarily from primates.

The Whitman African Students Association and Whitman Events Board will present Taste of Africa on Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Reid Campus Center’s Young Ballroom. The event will include African cuisine, music, live performances and cultural showcases. (Flyer attached.)

Tri-College Community Day is a day of service and connection where Whitman College collaborates with Walla Walla University and Walla Walla Community College to participate in various service projects around town. This year, the annual event takes place on Sunday, April 19, from noon–4 p.m., beginning and ending at Fort Walla Walla Park. A free lunch will be provided to volunteers who sign up in advance.
