Welty Health & Counseling Center: Integrated Care for Student Well-Being

By Aimée Milne, Assistant Vice President for Wellness

Two people at the Welty Health and Counseling Center front reception desk.

Over the last two years, the Welty Health and Counseling Center has undergone an important transformation. What was once two separate practices with different entrances is now a fully integrated clinic with a single welcoming entry point and a united approach to student care.

Today, whether a student seeks help for a physical health concern or is experiencing mental health distress, the practitioner they meet can also explore related factors that may affect their overall well-being. This holistic approach ensures students receive the right support at the right time.

Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, counselors and social workers. By working collaboratively, this team provides comprehensive, high-quality care in a coordinated way that centers student health and success.

Beginning this semester, students will also notice that they have access to a Student Health Portal. Using their Whitman College credentials, the portal allows students to manage medical records, complete required forms, and communicate securely with their treatment team. We encourage all students to log in and complete the Demographic Information and Consent to Treat Form before their first visit to save time.

In addition to in-person counseling, Whitman students have free access to teletherapy through UWill, a secure, user-friendly online counseling platform available year-round. Registration takes only a few minutes with Whitman credentials, and students can schedule their first session right away.

We are also delighted to announce that Michelle Shin ’23 has joined our team as our new Prevention Specialist. Shin recently earned her Master of Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health, with a concentration in Mental Health and Wellbeing. We are thrilled to welcome her back to Whitman in this important role.

The Welty Health and Counseling Center is open Monday–Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for medical and counseling services. Students can also access urgent walk-in counseling support between 10–11 a.m. and 3–4 p.m. daily, and medical prescribers are available by appointment. On Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., nurses are on-site for walk-in and appointments.

With this integration and expanded services, the Welty Health and Counseling Center is committed to providing accessible, comprehensive care that supports the well-being and success of every student.

With Coursedog, any Whitman student, faculty member or staff member can schedule their own meetings and events. To get started, please read this quick-start guide to learn the basics of how to use Coursedog. More guides and reference material will be released in the coming weeks.
