Art & Fashion Come Full Circle at Sheehan Gallery
|
In the early 1970s, Whitman College President Donald H. Sheehan envisioned a campus gallery, where Walla Wallans could enjoy the arts alongside the Whitman community. Visual artist Erik ReeL ’75 (right) left Whitman shortly before the Sheehan Gallery opened its doors, but he remembers Sheehan’s passion for the project.
Earlier this year, ReeL (pictured, left) returned to campus to experience Sheehan’s dream come to life—this time as an exhibiting artist, alongside his collaborator and wife, fashion curator Rhonda P. Hill (left).
Their show, “FACT: fashion + art construct tomorrow,” which was featured in the gallery from late January to early April, paired ReeL’s nonobjective paintings with fashions curated by Hill from up-and-coming designers Palani Bearghost, Alena Kalana and Fabiola Soavelo.

Reminder: Upcoming Labor Day Holiday
|
Because Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, falls on opening weekend this year, some staff may need to work on the holiday. As staff and supervisors work together on schedules that best meet the needs of our students, please keep the following in mind:
|
- Supervisors and staff should coordinate schedules so that hours worked on the holiday can be balanced (flexed) with time off during the same workweek. If it is not possible, overtime will be applied according to policy.
- It is important that all employees accurately record the hours they work, on the specific days they are worked.
