A Strong Start for Student Interest Clubs

Whitman College has more than 100 active student interest clubs, and September was a big month for campus club activity! Here are some highlights:

Engagement
Our student clubs and organizations are busy! So far this semester, 55 student clubs and organizations have hosted over 140 events and activities, with strong attendance across the board (more than 67% of our campus attended at least one event). This energy underscores the vital role clubs play in fostering connections and a sense of belonging on campus.

Community Service
A massive shout-out to the clubs who are creating community service opportunities—organizing donation drives, volunteering locally, weeding, gardening and raising awareness for important causes. In September alone, 157 students accumulated 413 community service hours. Volunteering is a great way to connect with other students and the larger Walla Walla community.

New Clubs
We are excited to introduce the Whitman College Chapter of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) as the newest member of our club community. Several more clubs are currently pending ASWC approval next week, including the Cards Club, the Community Action for Risk Education (CARE) Club, the Whitman College Rocketry and Propulsion Club and the Whitman College Psychology Society.

Looking for a club to join? Browse the Organizations list on Involve and click the “Join” link or reach out to the club leaders if something catches your interest!

CCEC Staff Members Interviewed for Chronicle of Higher Education Article

Director of the Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) Kim Rolfe and Director for Career Development Victoria Wolff were recently interviewed for an article titled “‘Career Everywhere’—Colleges Seek To Infuse Professional Prep in Almost Every Aspect of the Student Experience” now published in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Whitman’s practice of pairing every student with a career coach was highlighted in the article, which is part of a larger feature on the importance of professional networking for college students.
