Karen Angel: Sexual Assault Victim Advocate

Thanks to a longstanding partnership with YWCA Walla Walla, any member of the Whitman College community who experiences sexual assault has a free, confidential resource to turn to.

Karen Angel is the Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) for Whitman. She holds office hours on campus Tuesday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Welty Health and Counseling Center.

“I know this can be a tough topic to talk about,” says Angel, “But I want you to know you don't have to go through it alone. My services are always free, 100% confidential, and I'm not employed by Whitman—so what you share with me stays with me.”

Support from the SAVA can include:

  • A nonjudgmental space to talk with someone who will listen
  • Connections to the Title IX Office, campus security or police
  • Someone to accompany you to a court hearing or the hospital
  • Help with protection orders and finding legal support
  • Resources and information

Angel has been with YWCA Walla Walla as a Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Advocate for three years, and on the Crisis Team for two.

“This work is deeply personal to me,” says Angel. “I have witnessed how much healing, strength and transformation are possible for survivors, and I am committed to support each individual’s journey.”

To contact Angel, call or text 509-876-7075 or email sava@ywcaww.org. The YWCA also maintains an anonymous 24/7 crisis line at 509-529-9922. Additional information and resources are available online.
