For some Whitman College students, joining a club ski team feels totally natural. “I grew up Nordic skiing behind my mom,” says Maura Kelly ’26, an Art and Hispanic Studies double major from New Hampshire. As an endurance athlete who skied throughout high school, joining the team as a first-year was a no-brainer.

But for many students, stepping into a set of bindings means stepping out of their comfort zone. “I had never been skiing prior to attending Whitman, but when I saw how much fun my friends were having, I had to sign up.” says Camryn Zoeller ’26, a Biology-Environmental Studies major from South Dakota. 

Kelly and Zoeller are Co-Captains of the Nordic Ski Team, one of Whitman’s two student-run club ski teams. 

Both the Nordic Ski Team and the Alpine Ski Team prioritize accessibility, offering loaner gear, relying on school funding to offset costs and welcoming a wide range of experience levels.

To enhance user account security, the college uses multifactor authentication (MFA) as an additional protection for your account by requiring a second verification step during login.

When accessing your myWhitman account, you first enter your username and password. You will then be prompted to complete authentication using Duo MFA. This process helps prevent unauthorized access even if login credentials are compromised. Review all Duo MFA requests carefully. Only approve the request if you are actively signing in to your account. If you receive a request that you didn’t initiate or cannot verify, DENY the request immediately.

The Music Department will co-present “A Vital Conversation: Music for String Quartet by Black American Composers” on Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hall of Music’s Chism Recital Hall. (Flyer attached.) This intimate lecture-recital will feature the Vital Quartet in a preview of their upcoming performance on Thursday, March 12, as part of the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival. 

The final screening in the “Global Ecocinema: Environmental Storytelling and Social Justice Through Visual Media” series, previously scheduled for today, has been postponed. The Chinese film “Under the Dome” (2015) will be screened on Thursday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in Olin Auditorium. This series is made possible with the support of a Global Dialogues Faculty Development Grant and the Center for Global Studies at Whitman College, in collaboration with the Departments of Hispanic Studies and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. The Outdoor Program Rental Shop is offering a four-day rental rate that will cover the entire 16-day spring break period. Snow is forecasted in the Blue Mountains and snowshoes, cross-country skis and downhill skis are all available for this promotion. This week, the Rental Shop is open:
