Senior Class Representatives at Commencement

Two graduating students have been chosen to represent the Class of 2026 in words and in illustration during commencement.
Each year, one senior is selected to say a few words during the commencement ceremony. Interested students submit outlines or drafts of their proposed speech. Top candidates are asked to deliver their draft remarks in person for a small group of staff from the offices of the President, Communications and Alumni Relations. The Senior Committee also provides feedback to the selection group.

This year, the senior speaker will be Tenzin Uden ’26, an Economics and Computer Science double major and Davis United World College Scholar from Bhutan. While at Whitman, Uden worked as an Annual Giving Ambassador, a Student Career Advisor, a Tutor at the Academic Resource Center and a Finance Committee member for the Associated Students of Whitman College. She was also part of the South Asian Students Association and Badminton Club.

The class banner displayed during this year’s commencement ceremony was designed by Sascha Wells ’26, an Economics major and Art minor from Ashland, Oregon. (Preview attached.) While at Whitman, she served as Captain of the women’s tennis team, President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and worked in the Communications office as well as the fitness center.

Sculpture Dedication Today
|
A dedication event for the newest of Whitman’s public art installations will take place today at 2 p.m. on the lawn between Stanton Hall and Anderson Hall. The new “Friends” sculpture is a gift to the college by its artist, Cynthia McKean ’63.
|
The third annual Pášx̣apa Powwow will take place tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Sherwood Athletic Center. The event brings together tribal leaders, drummers, dancers and vendors from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The powwow is free and open to the public. (Flyer attached.)

Wallapalooza Music & Art Festival Tomorrow
|
The second annual Wallapalooza Music and Art Festival, organized by KWCW 90.5 FM, the Whitman Events Board, blue moon and quarterlife, will take place tomorrow from 4–10:30 p.m. on Ankeny Field. This year’s event will feature music from local favorites Love Brunch, Spec o’ Dust, and Noah Pody ’27; Seattle folk-rock band Small Paul; Buenos Aires indie-rock band Pacifica; and London indie-folk artist Cornelia Murr. There will also be arts and crafts sold by local vendors, free food and mocktails, an inflatable obstacle course and jousting arena, lawn games, horses, and the newest issues of quarterlife and blue moon.
