Salaguinto Family Internship Endowment
|
Beth Long Salaguinto ’88 and David M. Salaguinto Jr. ’87 credit Whitman College with much of their personal and professional success. With flourishing careers in human resources and product management, the Salaguintos are committed to paying it forward to help ensure that future Whitman students have even more opportunities to thrive.
In 2021, the couple established the Salaguinto Family Internship Endowment to support one or more student internships each year as a part of the Whitman Internship Grant program. The grants make it possible for Whitman students to compete for unpaid internships at nonprofits, government agencies and startups—internships that can provide valuable work experience and help launch careers after graduation.
The Salaguintos are firm believers in the value internships add to education.
“The critical thinking and writing skills you develop, the relationships you build, and the internship opportunities you take advantage of are the secret sauce of the Whitman experience,” Beth says. “All three combine to prepare you for life after graduation.”
While neither completed an internship during their undergraduate years, the Salaguintos were very active during their time at Whitman. Beth was involved with the Associated Students of Whitman College, the speech and debate team, and the Student Admission Advisory Council. David was President of the Whitman World Hunger Organization and played intramural basketball. And they both worked multiple jobs to pay their way through college.

Inclement Weather Notifications
|
As a reminder, Whitman College makes decisions related to inclement weather as follows:
|
- Delay/closure decisions are made following discussions between administrators, Security and Facilities.
- When possible, notifications about closures or delays are sent by 7 a.m. However, if conditions deteriorate throughout the day, a later decision may be necessary.
- Notifications will be made via email or via the college’s emergency alert system, depending on the urgency and circumstances.
- Safety of all faculty, staff and students is our top priority. If the conditions are worse where you live compared to what is observed on campus, use your best judgment and stay home if you need to.
|
If the college is operating but you are unable to get to campus:
|
- Students should notify professors and/or supervisors.
- Faculty members should notify their division chair and the students in any affected classes.
- Staff members should notify their supervisors to discuss work from home or other arrangements.
|
If you do not hear anything from the college via email or text, assume that the college is operating on a normal schedule.

Serve on SAC & Other Campus Groups
|
Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is a peer-elected group that advocates for and promotes the interests of staff, provides feedback and helps propose policies that affect staff, and facilitates communication between staff and other college stakeholders. Representatives from each division of the college serve three-year terms. Seats are opening up in the following areas:
|
- Admission & Financial Aid (one open seat)
- Finance & Administration (two open seats)
- At Large Representative (appointed depending on the needs of the council)
|
Staff who are interested are invited to fill out the self-nomination form.
You can also be connected to other campus groups when you complete the form, including the Grievance Policy working group—which meets monthly for up to 90 minutes. Questions? Email sac@whitman.edu or talk to a SAC representative.
