Student Voices: From Doubt to Decision
|
Siena Hayes ’26 (left) was unsure if she wanted to come to Whitman. After visiting campus in the fall, however, she knew that Whitman was where she wanted to spend the next four years.
“I was torn between Whitman and another college, and I didn’t want to make a commitment without knowing exactly what I wanted in my college experience.
“In October, Whitman invited me to a special event day. I didn’t really know too much about Whitman besides the fact that my mom (right) read about it in the book ‘Colleges That Change Lives,’ so I had to give it a shot. I remember landing at the Walla Walla airport, getting in the rental car and driving through campus. When I saw all of the colored trees against the red brick buildings, I thought to myself, ‘This is going to be a tough decision.’
“My two days at Whitman had made me rethink everything. Suddenly, I wasn’t so scared of this ‘ominous’ process of committing to a school. Since I had already applied to Whitman Regular Decision, I talked with my Admission Officer and was able to change my application to Early Decision status. Whitman made my choice easy, and I have never looked back.”

Whitties are sharing it all in our multimedia blog, Student Voices. Experience Whitman and Walla Walla through our students’ eyes! Read their personal stories, passions and perspectives—from navigating campus life to mentoring and career prep, learning a new language, sharing fun club activities, living in the Interest House Community and more.
All students are welcome to share their Whitman experiences. Staff and faculty are also invited to nominate students. We’d love to partner with various offices across campus to support more student stories. Nominations can be submitted using the Whittie Wisdom Nomination Form.
