Volunteer for Opening Day

Three students stand in a parking lot, arms full as they prepare to move into their residence hall.

We are a little over two weeks out from Opening Day—one of the most exciting days of the year marked by the arrival of our newest students and their families.

A few more volunteers are needed to check in students, direct traffic and help families carry boxes as the students move into their new rooms.

Please sign up and join our team of welcoming ambassadors for Whitman College.

Susan Prudente To Serve on Local YWCA Board

Development Officer Susan Prudente was recently nominated to serve on the Board of Directors of YWCA Walla Walla, for a three-year term beginning in January 2025. Prudente is one of many Whitties to be involved with the organization, which has been serving women and their families since 1917. Many students have engaged with YWCA Walla Walla through community fellowships, internships and participation in several connected community-based programs. Whitman alum Anne-Marie Zell Scherwin ’85 has served as the organization’s Executive Director since 2001. YWCA Walla Walla was founded by Mary Shipman Penrose, wife of Whitman College’s third president, Stephen B. L. Penrose.
