Wilderness Medicine Weekend Courses

At the beginning of the spring semester, the Outdoor Program sponsors wilderness medicine courses taught by instructors from the National Outdoor Leadership School. These courses are open to Whitman students, faculty and staff as well as community members.
Two additional courses, Wilderness First Aid With CPR and Wilderness First Responder Recertification, will be offered over the Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 15–17. (Flyer attached.)

Staff Member on Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau
|
Director of Academic Support Services Richard Middleton-Kaplan is on the 2024–2025 roster for the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau. This week, Dr. Middleton-Kaplan will deliver a talk titled “Honoring Women Peacebuilders in Africa and Beyond” on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre in Walla Walla. Free tickets may be reserved in advance.

Basketball Player Scores 1,000th Point
|
Earlier this month, Carly Martin ’25 scored her 1,000th career point at a Northwest Conference basketball game against Lewis & Clark. The Blues won the game with a decisive 72–33 victory. Tonight, both of Whitman’s basketball teams will play at Whitworth University.

President Bolton’s Open Office Hours for Students Tomorrow—With Special Guest
|
President Bolton’s first open office hours of the semester will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from noon–1 p.m. in Cleveland Commons, near the coffee counter. For this session, Bolton will be joined by Joe Davis, Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Weekly Events Create Space To Pause
|
This semester, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will host several recurring events in the All Faiths Room at Reid Campus Center. Art and Soul, which meets Thursdays from 4–5 p.m., offers a facilitated art project as a way to quiet the mind and build community. (Flyer attached.) STILL, which meets Thursdays from 7–8 p.m., provides a meditation opportunity, facilitated by a local Zen teacher. (Flyer attached.)

WEB Hosts Language Event Next Week
|
The Whitman Events Board (WEB) will host “Lessons on Language” on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center lower level. The event will provide opportunities to engage in conversation and talk about how language shapes our identities and perspectives. (Flyer attached.)
